PTA News Letter - June 09

PTA News (June 09):

This past month has been particularly busy as the PTA continues to flourish and develop activities and events that support our school thanks to many volunteers!

Summer Tennis: Thank you to Moynah Noble for organising this item again this year.

The School Fete: Thank you to all the parents and children who both helped out and supported this parish event. It was a fun day for all involved. A special thank you to Kathleen Mc Donald who organised the stall which sold craft items make by the 5th and 6th class. This was part of our outreach programme and moneys earned will go to Kenyabuild.

Siemens: Siemens Ireland visited our school on May 12th and delivered their Siemens Discovery Box to 3rd & 4th class. Thanks to Catriona Kelly for introducing this item and to Miss Galbraith for co-ordinating the visit.

The Dance Theatre of Ireland:Thanks to Liz Petit de Mange Curtis for organising this visit. This year for the first time ever all classes attended and we hop there was something for every one. It was fully funded by the PTA.

School Tours: It was decided this year that the PTA would subsidise all class tours to the tune of ten euro per child.

The Drumming Workshop: Thanks to Tara Murphy for introducing this item for the first time to the school. It was very well received with the children. This was fully funded by the PTA and all classes attended.

The New Pupils Party: Thanks to Roisin Mockler and her helpers for organising this event. Again, this is a lovely opportunity to introduce the new infants and parents to the school.

The Garda Band: A special thanks to Marie Fahy for organising this very special event. Thanks you to Canon Neill for the use of his garden. It was a fabulous backdrop on that sunny Wednesday morning. The money collected will go to the Music Therapy Unit at the NationalRehabilitationHospital.

Art Exhibition: Thanksto Tara Murphy for organising this. The art exhibition is a PTA initiative where the prizes are funded by the PTA and the canvases are paid for by the Board of Management. Thank you to the Board of Management for supporting this item. Last time for voting is lunchtime Friday June 19th.

The exhibition this year will include two additional items. We will be show casing some of the poems that were created by the children with the Fire Poet in February and after the 19th all Lion King masks and other items will also be on display. The complete exhibition will run from Wednesday June 16th to 24th.

The Lion King: Thank you to all the parents who have helped make this event even more spectacular than first imagined. Some considerable effort has been put in behind the scenes and we all look forward very much to a great performance by the pupils who have worked so hard under the superb direction of Becky O’ Connor, our music teacher. Thank you Becky!

Thank you also to all the teachers for their help and encouragement and also for working around the disruptions this term. Thank you to Mrs Wilson also for facilitating the work with 5th & 6th class during her arts and crafts time.

At this stage we would also thank Catriona Kelly for administration; Sara Walshe Roe, Margaret Koumarianous and Rose Kevany for help with the drama side of things; Kate Campbell, Dara Corcoran & Kathy Strachan for costumes, shoes and collars; Helene Jordan, Liz Petit de Mange, Roisin Mockler & Lene Curran for their sewing and papier mache expertise making masks and lastly Dara Mc Clatchie and Irish Aid for the decorations for the Church.

The stage crew will be in action this Saturday with a heavy schedule lined up for the next week, all hands on deck. Thanks in advance to Brendan Campbell, David O’Connor, Tadhg O’Driscoll & Wesley Curran. Thank you to RathdownSchool for lending us the stage and thank you also to Canon Neill for the use of the Church and Joan for all the disruption in the coming week.

There will be many more helpers on hand next week and we are very grateful for all offers and time spent. So a collective thank you one and all from the P.T.A. and especially from all our children who we are creating this truly memorable experience for.

Sports Day: Sports Day is on Tues June the 23rd and is in the safe hands of Zuilmah & Trevor King with help this year from Rachel O’ Sullivan. Further help will be needed on the day, so we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Details will be available next week. We would thank you all in advance and look forward to a great day. Let the sun shine.

A.G.M. The AGM is a great opportunity to recap on the year and plan for the next year. As parents this is a very informative evening and feedback is essential to help the committee progress and evolve. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday the 23rd - 8pm. Northover Hall. All are welcome.

After School Club for Infants: The Board of Management have given this proposal the go ahead in a slightly different format than originally suggested. Kathleen Mc Donald & Roisin Mockler in their professional capacity will offer this service from September on a trial basis until Christmas. Full details have been circulated to those concerned.
